Phew - in a bid to save both money and CO2 emissions, we've just been on a trip from Las Vegas to Dallas and Austin in our new company car - A Totoyta Prius Electric Hybrid. Flying would have meant 1 tonne of CO2 and $1,000 plus a rental car anyhow. Driving costs $200 in gas (petrol to you Brits!) and half the pollution. Ok so driving 3,000 miles took some time but we stopped and looked at the Hoover Dam, the meteor crater, Roswell and a pretified forest along the way.
Driving along at night I hit a tire lying in the road at about 80 miles an hour which damaged the car slightly. About 10 minutes later I got a flash of an animal in the headlights and whack! It wasn't until the morning when I found the porcipine quills stuck in the bumber I realised what I had hit. Perhaps driving wasn't so environmentally friendly after all.
A big thank you to Stephen Nold for his hospitality in Austin, Texas.
