The HSE is running its Ladder Exchange program again this year from 1 September until 31 December 2009 - something that organisers might feel value in communicating to their main and stand-builder contractor lists.
Basically, if contractors have a ladder which is damaged or broken they can part exchange it for a new one at a number of partner outlets offering discounts on the sales of all ladders. The scheme also provides dutyholders with an opportunity to review pre-use checks, training, supervision and other arrangements for ladder work.
During 2007/8 58 workers died and 3623 suffered a serious injury as a result of a fall from height. Ladders are the most common agent involved in these types of accident and account for more than a quarter of all reported falls from height incidents.
