Marketing and sales is very broad, I'm specifically interested in the sharp end: your "customer proposal" after all, that's where the purchase decision is made.
Have you found any one thing to be particularly effective at closing a deal? or particularly ineffective?

It's been a tough couple of years but there are some who have grown business during this time, ... so what have they been doing something to snaffle the additional contracts, ... more specifically, what are they using in their customer proposal to so easily convince a customer to sign on the dotted line?

We have found that the recession has lead to clients researching their requirements and options more than ever before. Fortunately this has worked rather well for us (Shell-Clad) as we are being discovered by end user exhibitors who might otherwise have remained blissfully unaware of what we do! I find that people ask a lot more questions, they want to know exactly what they are going to get for their pound ... especially when they have worked harder for that pound than in previous years. That said, we are finding that price isn't really the issue, it is genuine value for money and an improved show presence that people want. So, due dilligence duely done (say that after a bottle of wine), a surprising number of our clients are spending more than before. Ironic, eh?
